As 2018 comes to a close, I’m delighted to share with you some of the highlights we experienced over the past fruitful year.
This summer we had the privilege of delivering the largest live streaming event in history, the FIFA World Cup. As viewers tuned in on online platforms in unprecedented numbers, national broadcasters on several continents called upon Streamroot to ensure a TV-grade experience for this record-breaking event. During the World Cup, we offloaded up to 80% of CDN traffic, multiplying our customers’ streaming capacity twentyfold. Delivering 1.26 Tbps at peak, our technology improved the sports streaming experience for 20 million viewers worldwide. Taking part in the world’s greatest streaming event to date was an important milestone for Streamroot; it reminded us why we do what we do.
2018 was not only an incredible year for streaming. It also saw accelerating market adoption for mesh network delivery services. From national broadcasters to niche platforms, content owners all over the world are turning to peer-assisted video delivery to rise to the challenge of delivering high-quality video at scale. At Streamroot, we partnered with exciting new customers, including TF1 and France Télévisions, and won the first public tender for P2P delivery held by the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE. We broadened our activity in every region and considerably increased our presence in the Asian and US market, tripling our total revenue in 2018. With the peer-to-peer delivery market projected to reach $2.6 billion by 2023, there’s a lot more to look forward to in the years to come.
As demand for peer-assisted delivery grew, the industry took an even keener interest in our technology. This year we were invited to speak at numerous events around the globe including Demuxed, Google Next and IBC. This month, we were selected to join the Streaming Video Alliance. As a principal member, Streamroot joins NBC Universal, Fox Networks, Sky, Disney, Comcast, AWS, Google and others in developing best practices, guidelines and technical specifications that address critical challenges in online video. We are honored to be part of the alliance and are eager to take part in working groups that will determine the next industry standards for high-quality video delivery.
This year also saw the launch of two new products: DNA Enterprise and Compass. DNA Enterprise, our eCDN solution, brings broadcast-quality streaming to the corporate network. It is already deployed by Fortune 500 companies, eliminating 90% of their external bandwidth requirements for company all-hands events, trainings and earning calls. Compass, our groundbreaking midstream multi-CDN switcher, gained significant traction following its launch at IBC this year, and is in beta tests with several selected customers.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to share that Streamroot’s Board of Directors is expanding. We are proud to welcome Mark Kornfilt, CTO at Vimeo and previously Founder and CEO of Livestream, to the Streamroot board of directors. Mark will bring his extensive expertise in the video streaming industry, as well as his entrepreneurial acumen in building highly successful companies, to further support Streamroot’s growth.
We look forward to continuing to share our news, events and achievements throughout the coming year. 2018 proved to be an incredible year for Streamroot, and the best is yet to come.
